Over the August bank Holiday 10 cadets from 2070 Glenfield Squadron completed a tough 30 mile pack packing expedition.

The cadets were taking part in their expedition section of the Duke of Edinburgh’s award and choose the beautiful Great Langdale Valley in South Cumbria. Camping ‘High N Wild’ one night proved to be the highlight of the weekend, the weather all though poor during the day improved greatly early evening leading to a clear night up on the fells.
The cadets had to navigate and generally fend for themselves all weekend only meeting up with adult supervisors occasionally on route. The route chosen by the cadets took them over the high peaks off the Langdales, with some breath taking views. For some cadets this was the first taste of proper high level and wild country walking, the team mixed well with the end result being all cadets completing the route and 2 nights out with ease.
Flt Lt Steve Mayoh-Smith, Commanding Officer said, The weekend in the lakes is a annual event for 2070 squadron and we often utilise this time for silver and gold expeditions, either practices or finals. Its great to see the cadets advancing though the scheme with such enjoyment, even when cold, wet and tired! |
