On Sunday 18th June, 25 cadets from Glenfield joined cadets from 29 other squadrons to show some of the skills they had been developing over the past year and put on an excellent show throughout the day's events. The various events included:

Shooting, which is a timed shoot aiming at five 8mm (less than a 5p piece!) bulls-eye targets from 25 metres away (about the length of a swimming pool), with two shots at each, trying to score the most points possible. Two out of the three cadets in the team were acknowledged as being in the top five marksmen of the day.

The Drill Competition, which measures the squadrons ability to train cadets and for them to work as a team to move together, in time, to a set sequence of commands, given by a Senior NCO on the squadron. The Drill team came 3rd overall.

First Aid was in the form of a scenario where a car had crashed injuring 3 people. The team had to prioritise the injuries and deal with the most serious ones first and gather as much information as possible for the ambulance whilst trying to prevent the casualties condition from deteriorating.

Aircraft Recognition is an event for aviation enthusiasts and is not usually Glenfield's strong point of the day, however, this year the team of three cadets did exceptionally well and landed the squadron in the top-five for that event too!

The Leadership Task was a particular favourite of the cadets, because that drew on skills they had been learning and developing just two week prior to Wing Training Day. Their Team Leader who is accountable for a lot of the task, completed an intensive course of leadership training, enabling him to give the cadets first-class insight into how best the problem they were faced with, could be solved. The leadership team finished in the top 5 giving the squadron a good boost in the league tables for the day.

Overall 2070 Sqn were the Best Squadron of the day! Earning the prestigious McKenzie Cup which will sit in the squadron's trophy cabinet next to the other trophies the squadron has won over the past years. The final detailed results are yet to be released but will be available on the squadron forum in due course.
