Flt Lt Steve Mayoh-Smith

Officer Commanding 2070 (Glenfield) Squadron 2003 - Present

Joined 1947 ( Birstall) Squadron as a Cadet in 1979 rising to the rank of Cadet Warrant Officer, the highest possible as a cadet. After a break from the Corps he returned to offer his services as a member of Adult staff, again joining 1947 as a CI. He transferred to Glenfield  in 1996 and soon returned to uniformed service and thus became the Squadron Adult Warrant Officer. He was promoted to Pilot Officer in 2003, gaining his Commission into the RAF VR(T), soon after this he took command of the Squadron following the promotion of the previous OC to Wing Staff

Steve is a State Registered Paramedic providing Emergency Medical Cover at events and training across UK.

He is married to Sqd Ldr Sarah Mayoh-Smith, Wing Staff Officer and they have a daughter named Laura.

Away from cadets Steve enjoys running, mountain biking, camping and traveling abroad.

Fg Off Vijay Chudasama

BTEC/MV Officer

Vijay was a Cadet Warrant Officer at Glenfield until 2001, when he was transferred to Birstall squadron, where he gained his Commision into the RAF VR(T) and was the Squadron Adjutant. Vijay returned to Glenfield in 2005 to take on the role of BTEC/MV Officer, ensuring that all the eligible cadets were given the oppurtunity to earn worthwhile and nationally recognised qualifications and achievements.

Vijay is a Researcher at Glenfield Hospital, has a Masters Degree in biochemistry and is looking to study for a PhD.

WO Andy Hubbard

Sqn WO/Shooting Officer

Andy was also a cadet, reaching the rank of Cdt Flight Sergeant, serving at 2502 Hamilton squadron. After taking a break from the Corps, he returned and went into uniform as an Adult Warrant Officer. Andy transferred to Glenfield in early 2005 and took on the Squadron Warrant Officer role and Shooting Officer. He has propelled the squadron to the top of the tables in shooting and has coached cadets to achieve their Marksmen awards and a multitude of levels, from squadron air rifle shooting to full-bore target rifle shooting and the National Rifle Association HQ in Bisley.

Andy is a qualified Weapons Instructor and Range Conducting Officer and can run every range that a cadet is allowed to use, including blank firing and Skill At Arms excercises. Andy is also a qualified Drill Instructor, having attended and passed a week-long intensive course at RAFC Cranwell. 

Andy is a Health and Safety inspector for Leicestershire County Council. He is also a qualified landscaper and has a degree-equivalent in Horticulture.

ASGT Matthew Parker

IC Probationer Training

Matt is the newest addition to the staff team at Glenfield. Matt used to be a cadet at 1188 (Coalville) and achived the rank of Cadet Warrant Officer, before he went into the RAF. Matt served a number of years in the RAF before leaving to move to a stable area with his wife and two young children.

Matt has attended his SNCO Induction course at RAFC Cranwell and passed with flying colours, having been reccommended for the Drill Instructors course. Matt takes overall responsibility for the training of new cadets and manages their progress so that they can get on and do the activities that become open to them having passed their basic training.

CI Brian Libby

Brian joined the ATC as an adventure training instructor in 1992 having spent 22years in the Intelligence Corps, Army. His outdoor experience is based on being an international class orienteer, rock climber, mountain biker, a sub-three hour marathon runner, water ski instructor and adventure training instructor in the German Alps. 

Brian is one of six instructors and one of three assessors in the ATC working from the National Adventure Training Centre at Windermere in the Lake District, training and assessing Mountain Leader Award (MLA) candidates on behalf of the British Mountianeering Council. This allows qualified assessed ATC staff to take adult and youth groups into the UK mountains, above 600m, in the summer and autumn weather conditions. Brian also helps out in the training and assessing of Basic Expedition Leader Assessment (BELA) training on behalf of the Sports Council (UK) and is active in the supervision and assessing of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme for adventure training. 

Brian has retired as a Media Manager from an American multi-national company making hazardous area and waterproof communications equipment to work in a stress free job for East Midlands Ambulance Service.

CI Carl Anderson

Carl originally joined the squadron in 1998 as a cadet and attained the rank of Sgt, before going to university to study Radiography. Once Carl had graduated, he returned to Glenfield Squadron as a member of staff, taking on the responsibility of squadron uniform and general stores, and teaching new cadets the Initial Expedition Training section of their basic training course. 

Carl is currently undergoing the process to become a Commissioned Officer in the RAF VR(T).

CI Brian Roffee
CI Paul Gibson

Paul joined Glenfield as a CI, in 2004 having spent a number of years working with 504 Sqn RAF Regiment Flight, having attained the rank of Corporal. During his service Paul visited Germany, Holland, Belgium, France and Cyprus. In 2003, he was deployed for a 6 month tour of duty in Kuwait and Iraq.

Paul has 3 grown children and 2 grandchildren and now works for Leicester City Council Sports Development, as a multi-sport coach. Paul is BELA qualified and is currently training for his Mountain Leader (Summer) Qualification.

Paul takes the lead role on the squadron for Fieldcraft and Military Skills Training, imparting his knowledge from the time served with the RAF, as an operational gunner.
